lately i've been busy with all the preparations for christmas -- decorating (or lack thereof), shopping, preparing travel plans, preparing to be out of work for over a week. in the midst of that, i haven't reflected a whole lot on the meaning of the season. shame on me.
our CHURCH celebration was a perfect opportunity to reflect on it. as per tradition, our pastor read MAX LUCADO'S COSMIC CHRISTMAS to us. the story alone should make one think, really consider the actual implications of the christmas story.
honestly, how much "sense" does the story make?
we have the players:
angels - prepping for the birth of but one tiny babe
mary - virgin, preggers by the holy spirit
joseph - married to mary the virgin, wrestling with whether she was unfaithful
innkeeper - gruff man who puts paying customers in a scratchy stall
animals - bewildered by the squawling creature that's displacing their grain nuggets
baby Jesus - appearing as a tiny baby, swaddled within an inch of his life
royalty - visiting this baby, led by a star
an unlikely cast, no? really, the miracle of christmas, the meaning, the actions & the story are humbling to imagine. God the Father orchestrates amazing things, no?
